The games is a 2 player strategy game with the object being to take ownership of the playing grid. If a player clicks on a unowned (gray) square they take ownership and increase the displayed value.

A player may also click a square they already own to increase its value. Whenever a square has a value higher that the number of immediate neighbors (corners have two, edges have three, all others have four neighbors) the square will give one of its points to each of its neighbors and also take ownership of them. This 'jumping' is recursive if giving a neighbor a point causes it to also give its points away to its neighbors. In this manner a player gains dominance of the grid.
